Industrial Safety Rover

A four-wheel robot that patrols an industrial site on its own and watches for danger when no one is there — at night, after hours, or in areas that are unsafe for people. A camera and a Raspberry Pi 5 handle the vision and the AI that drive it around; its sensors watch for fire, gas, heat and dangerous humidity. When a reading crosses a safe limit, the screen flips to a full-screen warning such as FIRE DETECTED, GAS LEAK DETECTED or EXCEED HUMIDITY. It is built to monitor a site, not to be driven by a person.

How it works. A Raspberry Pi 5 is the brain — it processes the camera feed and runs the AI that decides where the rover goes. The sensors (flame, gas, temperature, humidity and ultrasonic) watch the area, and the readings are sent to a cloud server so the site can be checked remotely. An Arduino Uno handles the motors, driving four geared wheels through two IBT-2 (BTS7960) drivers. On board there is also a servo arm with a gripper, an OLED dashboard, an addressable RGB status strip and a rotating alarm beacon, run from a buck converter and a lithium battery.

Electric Go-Kart

A road-going electric go-kart built from a hand-welded steel frame. It carries several people across a field on one charge. Built in Grade 9 with a team.

How it works. Welded square-steel chassis; a LUKE 850 W, 48 V brushed DC motor with a matching speed controller; chain drive to the rear axle; a steering column and wheel; a battery pack on the deck.

E-Ink Desk Companion

A small e-ink device with two modes. One is a Wi-Fi learning display in the style of Pwnagotchi, used on my own network to study how Wi-Fi works. The other is a desk dashboard showing the time, date and live Kathmandu weather — temperature, humidity and conditions — fetched over Wi-Fi. It sits in a 3D-printed case I designed.

How it works. A low-cost ESP8285 Wi-Fi board with a 2.13-inch e-ink display. The board shipped locked to a fixed set of commands, so I wrote my own firmware to drive the display and both modes. Weather is pulled over Wi-Fi; the case is 3D-printed.

Smart Wi-Fi RGB Light

An addressable RGB LED ring controlled from the phone over Wi-Fi — a colour wheel, effects and saved presets.

How it works. An ESP8266 driving a ring of addressable RGB LEDs, controlled from a phone over the local network.

Smart Dustbin

A bin that opens its lid by itself when a hand comes near, so no one has to touch it. Shown at a school exhibition.

How it works. An ultrasonic distance sensor detects a hand; a servo lifts the lid and closes it again after a moment.

RGB Monster Truck

A four-wheel monster-truck-style car with a programmable RGB underglow. An addressable LED strip along the bottom cycles through colours and chase patterns, so the whole car glows and shifts colour. It has chunky off-road wheels, ultrasonic sensors and a 3D-printed top bracket, all run from a microcontroller.

How it works. A microcontroller drives an addressable RGB LED strip (each LED set on its own) for the colour-cycling underglow. Chunky off-road wheels, ultrasonic sensors front and back, and a 3D-printed bracket on top, powered from an on-board battery.

DIY 18650 Power Banks

Home-made power banks built from 18650 lithium cells that charge a phone — a four-cell version and a smaller two-cell one.

How it works. 18650 cells in a holder with a charge-and-boost board and a USB output; built and tested charging a phone.

Battery-Powered Fan

A small rechargeable fan built into a basket housing — a DC motor and propeller running from an 18650 cell with an on/off switch.

How it works. A DC motor and propeller powered by an 18650 cell, with a simple on/off switch.
